Parasym and microcurrent clarification
Just for clarification of the parasym and microcurrent, Andrea Parker OT has very kindly written another post for us
“The Parasym is a TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) device not a microcurrent device. A microcurrent device uses a current less than 1 milliamps. The Parasym has an intensity range up to 36 milliamps. So although it has a reduced range compared to other TENS devices, it is by definition still a TENS device because the current exceeds 1 milliamp.
It is possible to achieve the low current required for transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (tVNS) using a standard TENS device. However, some devices are easier to control than others to achieve the low amps needed for tVNS.
For further information on microamp devices, here are some references:
I am not aware of any microamp devices being used currently for tVNS.”
